About Project

Villa VOID — A Home of Volumes, Calm and Rural Modernity Nestled within the quiet farmlands of Vellakovil, Tamil Nadu, Villa VOID is conceived as an immersive architectural retreat where vast volumes, crafted materials and soft natural light shape a home that breathes. Spread across 9,000 sq ft, the residence takes its name from its defining design gesture—monumental double-height voids that create a poetic sense of openness and vertical continuity. The main residence, planned across two levels, houses four bedrooms that look out toward the farmland and inward to tranquil courtyard spaces. The approach begins at a vernacular-inspired stone thinnai, unfolding into a sandstone-clad sit-out that sets a warm, rustic tone. A brass-inlaid concrete foyer then leads into a welcoming living room layered with exposed concrete finishes, stone walls and a sculptural custom metal bookcase. Anchoring the ground floor is a double-height family room embracing an intimate courtyard, where a custom-designed Jaisalmer seating forms the focal point. The home’s flooring palette harmonizes Kota stone with intricate Jaisalmer patterned inlays, merging traditional craftsmanship with modern sensibilities. Adjacent to the courtyard sits the Pooja room, designed as a serene spiritual threshold within the home. It features double openable teak doors with beautifully detailed woodwork, creating a warm, ceremonial entrance. Inside, the Pooja frames—uniquely carved wooden panels featuring engraved deities—are mounted against soft concrete backdrops, offering a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional prayer spaces. The interplay of wood, concrete and crafted ornamentation creates a space that feels both sacred and modern. A striking central stringer staircase rises beside the courtyard’s Plumeria, leading toward the private rooms on the upper floor. The adjacent double-height dining space, wrapped in textured concrete panels, frames open views between the two floors, allowing light and conversation to flow effortlessly. The open kitchen—complete with a skylit island breakfast counter—adds to the warmth and functionality of the central living zone. The master bedroom offers an expansive, quiet retreat with concrete textures, warm woods and a long window seating overlooking the landscape. On the first floor, a tranquil yoga room enclosed by sliding aluminium doors opens to vast farm views, becoming a calming sanctuary within the home. Three distinct double-height volumes define the spatial rhythm of Villa VOID, imparting a sense of depth, ventilation and sculptural presence to every part of the residence. Complementing the main home, the outhouse houses an elongated open-plan kitchen and dining area, a bedroom and a toilet—ideal for guests or extended living. Villa VOID stands as a refined orchestration of voids, materials and crafted details—where rural modernity meets timeless tradition, and architecture becomes a celebration of space, light and quiet luxury.
